RESIDENTIAL

A Seamless Addition in Highland Park, Dallas

Every square foot matters—especially in Highland Park, where strict zoning, height, and area regulations create unique challenges for residential additions. At 4316 Hyer Street, Darryl Muir led the transformation of this home with design clarity, delivering a 1,200 SF expansion that both respects its original architecture and introduces bright, modern livability.

📍 Location & Context
Located in the heart of Highland Park, one of Dallas’ most historically protected and design-regulated neighborhoods, this project required full compliance with municipal codes and visual continuity standards.

🏗️ Design Approach & Execution
✅ Tight Site Planning:
The design navigated challenging lot restrictions to maximize vertical space while maintaining curb appeal and daylight access for neighboring properties.
✅ Material Harmony:
Wood framing provided structural flexibility.
Cementous siding was selected to complement the original home's texture while delivering long-term durability and a clean, timeless finish.
✅ Interior Upgrades:
Vaulted ceilings and large windows introduced natural light and spatial openness.
A new bathroom layout and cabinetry added functionality and flow, all wrapped in a crisp, modern palette.
✅ Before & After:
What was once a modest single-story cottage is now a multi-level family home with increased livable area, an upgraded façade, and elevated architectural character—all while preserving the essence of the original design.

🛠️ The Impact
Thanks to Darryl’s leadership, the team executed an elegant expansion that complies with Highland Park’s rigorous regulations, while significantly enhancing the value and usability of the home.

Coe Alpine Retreat Where Architecture Meets Nature

Nestled in the heart of South Fork, Colorado, this 1,350 SF log cabin addition brings together the warmth of traditional mountain architecture with a modern, non-contextual design that complements the surrounding landscape. Designed by Darryl Muir, this project harmonizes heavy timber and stone with a sleek, contemporary aesthetic—creating a space that is both rugged and refined.

📍 The Location: South Fork, Colorado
Located near Elk Creek Ranch, this retreat sits on the edge of the Colorado National Forest, surrounded by breathtaking rocky peaks, alpine meadows, and dense pine forests. With an elevation of over 8,000 feet, the site required careful planning to integrate seamlessly with the mountainous terrain while ensuring durability against harsh winter conditions and high-altitude elements.

🏗️ Architectural Execution
✅ Seamless Cabin Expansion: The addition was designed to maintain the essence of the existing cabin while introducing new, contemporary elements.
✅ Material Selection: Heavy timber and locally sourced stone enhance the rustic character while ensuring longevity in the mountain climate.
✅ Expansive Views & Natural Light: Large floor-to-ceiling windows frame the forested surroundings, maximizing daylight and panoramic views.
✅ Structural Integrity: Designed to withstand high snow loads and temperature fluctuations, ensuring a lasting, high-performance build.

🔨 The Vision Behind the Design
This project is a testament to the power of architecture in shaping meaningful experiences. The contrast between traditional and contemporary elements creates a unique, inviting atmosphere—one that respects the natural environment while pushing design boundaries. The result? A timeless alpine retreat that feels both connected to its past and designed for the future.
